A bridge is a dental fixture that replaces lost or missing teeth. A typical three-unit bridge consists of a pontic (the replacement tooth) that is attached to two adjacent crowned teeth, also known as abutments. Once completed, the bridge is placed permanently into the mouth. Without the use of a replacement bridge, existing teeth may shift and the patient may have difficulty chewing. This could have a spiraling effect of decay, periodontal disease, TMJ problems, or possibly further loss of teeth. The bridge safeguards the integrity of existing teeth, maintaining a healthy smile. With the advancement of Cerec© technology this can now be done in one visit.
